Personality []

Sally was initially sulky and rude, keeping herself to herself, largely due to depression and jealously of her younger sister. When Darrell helps her clear up the issues, she opens up and the two become best friends. Sally becomes more likeable after this and is very loyal to Darrell. She is serious, calm, quiet and sensible. Sally also denied having a baby sister although she became more accepting of this after her mother came to visit when she was unwell with appendicitis.

A responsible girl, she is often the voice of reason in her form's frequent antics. She is a very calm and dignified student and leader.

Despite her good nature, Sally has one big failing, and that is jealousy. Sally easily gets jealous over Darrell's other friendships and gets upset when her parents don't pay her as much attention as they used to when baby Daphne was born.

She is popular in her form but they often label her to be boring due to her dislike of Alicia's tricks. She says in the second book (Second Form At Malory Towers) to Darrell that Alicia wouldn't be such a good head girl as she is rather harsh and plays the fool, also mentioning that Alicia does not take up any responsibility and cannot succeed in becoming a good leader.

Abilities[]

She is good at sport, becoming Games captain in her last year, and is good at lessons too. She is described as being a brilliant lacrosse player by Alicia, one of the cleverest in the class by Katherine, and monitor to the head girl by Gwendoline.

Family and Friends[]

When Sally's baby sister, Daphne is born, Sally becomes extremely jealous of all the attention. She assumes that her mother and father are trying to get rid of her by sending her to Malory Towers. Darrell clears it up with her and Sally becomes very fond of her sister.

History[]

First and Second Books[]

As said earlier, Sally is very jealous of Daphne. She thought that her mother had sent her away to Malory Towers as soon as Daffy was born because she didn't want her anymore. This is what starts the row between Sally and Darrell in the first book, and Darrell was wondering why Sally said she didn't have a sister when it was so obvious she did! Sally gets defensive, and after a conversation with Mrs Hope, she realized Sally was so jealous of her little sister to the extent that she was telling people that young Daffy didn't exist! Sally and Darrell become tight at the end of the book, with Darrell realizing Alicia wasn't a true friend and that Sally was much more honest, sincere and loyal than Alicia could ever be!

In the second form, Sally becomes head-girl! Sally was very happy and didn't think she would get it at all. Darrell was pleased as punch for her! Alicia acted scornfully towards her, still sore about not being head-girl, but the good, kind and sensible Sally was quite persistent in ignoring her, much to Alicia's frustration. Despite all the things happening, what with Ellen and Belinda and the whole lot. Sally proved herself a marvellous head-girl but was often blamed for Darrell's impatient actions by the sharp-tongued Alicia.

Third and Fourth Books[]

Sally was in quarantine for the first few weeks of term in the third form, much to her best friend Darrell's dismay. When Sally gets back, she sees that Darrell and Alicia have palled up because Alicia's friend Betty was sick too. Sally's jealousy flares up. Darrell tells her she's so excited to see her and Sally asks Darrell to drop Alicia. Darrell tells her not to ruin the reunion between them and Sally tells her she'll try. But her jealousy wasn't conquered for very long when she finds out Alicia had been secretly conversing with Darrell over a trick she disapproved of. Sally knew Alicia was trying to make her jealously flare-up in public, but poor Sally couldn't help it. She was also sad that Alicia had got to Darrell and congratulated her for getting on the team before, she, Sally did! Darrell says to Sally that she's her best friend and that Alicia will never replace her. Sally feels a bit better and feels even better when [Betty Hills, Alicia's best friend] comes back. Darrell tells her in private she is glad to be rid of Alicia!

In the fourth, Sally was helping Darrell control her temper because of the awful shenanigans that were happening. Alicia was undermining and flouting Darrell's authority and kept on saying, "You're head-girl, aren't you?" Alicia's friend Betty backed Alicia up on this. Sally noticed Darrell's quiet rage and Alicia's taunting one. Alicia says she is dear and it is typical of her to pour oil on troubled waters. Sensibly, Sally does not retaliate and plainly ignores Alicia's comments which were full of spite. When the cheeky little June told on the fourth-formers to get back at Alicia, Darrell was demoted and Sally was put as a temporary head-girl in her place.

Fifth and Sixth Books[]

In the fifth, Sally comes back to Malory Towers with her best friend, Darrell. They settle in and find some troublesome new girls on their hands. Sally assists Darrell with writing the fifth-form pantomime of Cinderella. Darrell says that Sally helped her with most of it, but Sally knew all the creativity had been her friend's idea. Soon, Moira gets spiteful letters and said that it could be Sally or Darrell or other members of the fifth form. Sally gets worried and doesn't want Moira suspecting everyone in the fifth. They soon find out that it was the bold, brazen and cheeky little scamp of a June! After this, Moira becomes less domineering, much to Sally and her friend, Darrell's delight. Sally gets some of the credit and goes on stage when Darrell said that Sally helped her. The term ends quite happily.

In the sixth, Sally becomes the games-captain of the entire school. Darrell is very proud of her, and Moira likes to advise and assist her with duties because she loves games. Sally is open to Moira's ideas about who should be on which team. Amanda says she knows who the games-captain of Malory Towers will be in three-years-time, and she says June. June! Sally was shocked, but she knew June could be good if she tried. She cunningly made Amanda fall into the trap of offering to coach her. Darrell applauds her and says she is clever. Sally spent a good amount of time doing games duties and saw Felicity's friend Nora make the pins of Mam'zelle Dupont fall out, much to her secret delight. Darrell tells her she had a lot to say to Felicity, and Alicia had a lot to say to June. Although Sally had to admit it was brave of those youngsters and they had pulled it off successfully. Sally and Darrell say an emotional farewell to their dear Malory Towers.

Later Life[]

Later on after Malory Towers, Sally goes to University with Darrell, Betty and Alicia. Whilst there she trains very hard to become a primary school teacher.
